The reconstruction of the Trav Kod Reservoir started as a request from the villagers of Balang. The project took three years of fund-raising by a fledgling Human Translation organization, and several years of planning and engineering that was conducted by the New York Chapter of Engineers Without Borders in collaboration with Human Translation.

The final physical construction took place in the spring, summer, and fall of 2008. The reservoir was restocked in 2009.

The Trach School in Balang had been out of operation for some time, was being used as a storage depot by the Cambodian Mine Action Committee, and had no teachers. Human Translation spearheaded the renovation of the old school and began a literacy program for children and adults in both Khmer and English at the request of the villages.

In 2008 Human Translation began the Red Filter Project, installing highly effective concrete BioSand water filters that cleanse the water that comes from local wells of over 90% of contaminants.
